The ILCSC assisted a client in receiving a Section 8 voucher through'The Homeless Program.'  The client needed furniture, and through a referral from the ILCSC they received furniture for their entire home.  This client has now reached a new level of independence..*.

Darrell McDaniel Service Center

·    ADVOCACY - Clients are guided towards self-advocacy with issues such as benefits counseling, landlord/tenant disputes, and general and legal referrals.

·    CROSS-DISABILITY PEER MODELING/PEER COUNSELING - Designed to increase skills and knowledge with interpersonal, family, social, financial, and inter-agency services that bring increased trust and a reduction in isolation.

·    HOUSING REFERRALS - Provides referrals to clients who are seeking affordable, accessible living situations in the community.

·    PERSONAL ASSISTANT REFERRALS - Develops skills and knowledge in the interviewing, hiring, management and self evaluation of a personal assistant, interpreters, readers, and drivers.  A registry of persons looking for part and full-time work as an assistant is maintained for the convenience of the client.

·    SYSTEMS ADVOCACY - Efforts to affect legislation, policies and laws for changes in the system, through a partnership with the client and the community.

·    TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE - Designed to educate the client and the community on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), fair housing laws, Rehabilitation Act, and other State and Federal laws which will assist in the availability of services and employment for persons with disabilities.

·    INFORMATION AND REFERRAL - Provides clients with assistance in utilizing all available services in the community.

·    EMERGENCY SERVICES - Provides services toward obtaining emergency shelter, food and clothing. 

·    ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY - Providing options for referrals to obtain evaluations in high/low technology leading toward Independent Living...enabling a person with a disability to receive better health care, pursue employment opportunities, and to participate fully in their community.  Examples of Assistive Technology (AT) include medical equipment, adaptive computer hardware and software, and products and services which aid daily living.
