The Independent Living Center of Southern California (ILCSC) is saddened to
announce the passing of Lillibeth Navarro, Executive Director and
Founder of Communities Living Actively & Free (CALIF).
Lillibeth and Norma Jean Vescovo, ILCSC Executive Director, worked together through
the years fighting for disability rights, including advocating for the passage of the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The passage of the ADA has monumentally
impacted the rights of all persons with disabilities. She and Norma also worked together
to improve the availability of affordable housing in the City of L.A. Lillibeth was
recognized by a former President of the Philippines for her work both in the United States
and the Philippines (where she was born). Her legacy will live on each time a person
with a disability experiences the equality and opportunities, which they are entitled to.
We offer our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and the CALIF staff.
We will miss her.
Norma Jean Vescovo, ILCSC Board of Directors, Staff, and Clients
